Between Sovereign Lakes and Silver Star Resorts is one of Vernon's best kept secrets... Miles of snowshoe trails that are free to use The trails are inside Silver Star Provincial Park and were developed by the Vernon Outdoor Club We stumbled upon them in 2015 when the trails at Sovereign Lake were late opening. (Fantastic Snowshoeing & XC Skiing) We spent 25 invigorating days traversing the trails that range from easy to strenuous. I logged all the trails in my GPS and have created a free map. BC Parks has removed all ribbons and signage from these trails and now considers them as unmarked back country trails
This winter we have been working on mapping the trails above the 2nd switchback on Silver Star Road These trails are still with in the Provincial Park . We have attached a "Draft Version" of the overview map there are still lots of km of trails to map :) We hope to have the the final version up soon Note: There was a moose kill on the trail and Parks suspected a Cougar or Wolf was the culprit. As always in a Park keep your dog on a leash
Another of Vernon's best kept secrets! Aberdeen Columns is hidden in the mountains to the East of Vernon With over 130 routes ranging from 5.4 to OMG!
This is crack climbing at its best. The Basalt has fractured into typical columnar joining (5 sided columns). It is well worth the 5 minute walk from the carjust to see the spectacular cliffs On all our visits there was only one other group climbing. Considering what Skaha is like on any given weekend Aberdeen is a beautiful and serene place to climb!
